Colon Cleansing - The Health Benefits of Cleaning Your Colon

Many people are starting to learn that cleansing your colon is one of the primary ways to help keep your body healthy. In fact, colon cleansing has been known to correct chronic health problems, illnesses, and diseases too.

If you're new to colon cleansing though, you may not understand exactly how it helps your body become healthier, or stay in great shape. So I'll give you an introduction to how and why it all works...

Your colon is about five to six feet long. And this part of your body is connected to every single other part of the body through nerve endings. Now, the colon is also where solid waste products are sent, and these waste products move through the entire length of your colon to be expelled through your bowel movements.

The waste that moves through your colon is solid, and it's also known as stool. This solid waste carries bacteria, germs, and toxins with it, because this is one of the primary ways your body gets rid of those things which are harmful to it.

Unfortunately, because of the way most people live in modern day society, the solid waste which is in the colon often stays there for too long. And the longer it stays within your colon, the more it is able to poison your body. If the solid waste material is not moved through and out of your colon quickly enough, the bacteria, germs, and other harmful toxins which are carried in the waste products can leak through the thin colon walls, and cause harm to the rest of your body. And when this happens, a wide variety of health problems can occur too.

A healthy colon usually moves solid waste material out within about twenty four hours or less of you eating a meal. The solid waste material often moves out of the body easily too - there is no waiting or straining while sitting on the toilet.

If you're not having a good bowel movement at least twice each day, or if your bowel movements often take time and effort to accomplish, then you are constipated. And when you're constipated, this means your colon is backlogged with waste material that can make your body sick.

Cleansing the colon is easily done with changes in your diet, using herbal supplements, or using colon cleansing enemas and irrigation techniques. Most people find the idea of enemas unpleasant though, so they often start with the first two techniques.

Dietary changes can include going on a juice fast, or simply changing to raw fruits and vegetables for a week or so. Drinking a lot of water also helps cleanse the colon, as does taking specific herbal supplements.
